All over the world, the COVID-19 pandemic is causing significant loss of life, disrupting livelihoods, and threatening the recent advances in achieving the sustainable development goals, We know that as long as anyone is at risk from this virus, the entire world is at risk – every single person on the planet needs to be protected from this disease.

The Mpohor District is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and forms part of the14 MMDAs in the Western Region. The administrative capital Mpohor was carved from Mpohor Wassa and forms part of the new Districts and Municipalities created in the year 2012. the Mpohor district is one of the districts in the western region of Ghana to have recorded the deadly corona virus infections.

The 3 organizations; Plant a Smile, AprilO2 and Charles Buckman Foundation, collaborated to donate more than 1000 face masks to the constituents of Mpohor with special focus on drivers, traders, store keeper, and the elderly. This group by virtue of their trade are able to make several contacts with members of the community and the elderly most of whom have underling conditions making them more susceptible to the virus.

The founder of AprilO2 foundation, Ms. Shonda Naa Ayorkor, a social entrepreneur and an on air personality with EIB empire FM, said, it is an effort to support the inputs of the authorities in fighting the corona virus pandemic and also to communicate to constituents that , it’s okay to be scared, to have doubts but we are in this together and we can only win if we stay safe.

AprilO2 Foundation is passionate about women empowerment, child education and it strives to make a positive impact in the lives of the vulnerable in society.

A representative of Plant a smile foundation Mr. Mark Kwofie, emphasized that, the vision  of the organization is to be the number one foundation in West Africa that reminds humanity that kindness is more powerful than medication when extended to the right community and this gesture to the people of Mpohor is to help achieve this vision.

The co-founder of Volunteers4covid19, a group of young professionals at the forefront of the fight against covid19, Mr. Atsu George Geraldo de Lima, who also doubles as the lead consultant for Charles Buckman foundation, urged the residents to adhere to the safety protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service to prevent the further spread of the virus, also reiterating on the need for parents to help inculcate the habit of hand washing in their children since it helps prevent the corona virus infection and other bacterial infections.

The founder of Charles Buckman Foundation, Dr. Charles J. Buckman who is currently in the UK, envisions to empower the youth of Africa, to help unearth their potentials and talents thereby making them agents of change and disruption in sustainable development and growth of the African continent.

The Charles Buckman foundation aims to bring hope, help and healing to mankind prioritizing the most vulnerable in society.

The western region has witnessed a devastating increment in the corona virus infections for the past three weeks, the region currently ranked 3rd with 344 infection and STMA being a major hotspot. This has also affected the livelihood of many, leading to the widening of the poverty gap in the region.
